Festive Everest Trek: The Mani Rimdu Festival

Apart from the fresh mountains air and the green calm surroundings, the Everest Region also have a Sherpa community hosting the delightful Mani Rimdu Festival . It is the blessing ceremony from Tengbuche Rimbuchhe conducting every year at Tengbuche monastery. It is one of the oldest monastery in this region which lies at an altitude of 3867 meter high and lies one the main route to the Everest Base Camp. It offers the first clear views of the highest mountains in the world. The Mani Rimdu Festival is celebrated usually in between  mid October to mid November. The exact date of the festival is fixed according to the Tibetan Lunar Calender and announces by the head of the Lama of the Monastry.

The Mani Rimdu festival is celebrated to represent the victory of the Buddhism over ancient 'Bon' religion. It is performed by the monks of the monastery. It last for 19 consequent days however  public ceremony is celebrated for 3 days. There will be lots of activities like the empowerment -the wong-the blessing from the Rimbuchhe, colorful mask-dances , and many more poojas.

Outline of Itinerary

Day 1 : arrive at Kathmandu TIA airport, transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and preparation for the trek .

Day 3: Kathmandu-Lukla by flight and 3-4 hr trek to Pkhakding.

Day 4: Phakding to Namche bazar  5-6 hrs.trek

Day 5: Acclimatization day 

Day 6:Namche bazar to tengbuche 3-4 hr trek

Day 7: 1st day of Mani Rimdu festival at tengbuche. the blessing day-wang day

Day 8: 2nd day of the festival, see the Chham- the mask dance 

Day 9: 3rd day of the festival, see the jinsak -closing  ceremony.

Day 10: trek from Tengbuche to Namche Bazar  4-5 hr

Day 11: Trek from Namche to Lukla 6-7 hrs

Day 12: Lukla to Kathmandu by flight 

Day 13: Leisure day in Kathmandu

Day 14 : depature from Kathmandu.
