Gosainkunda also spelled as Gosaikunda or Gosain Kunda is the alpine freshwater lake at an elevation of 4380 metres. According to legends, It is believed that gosainkunda, the holy lake was created by lord shiva (the hindu deity) himself when he pierced a glacier with his Trishul (Holy Trident) to extract water to cool his stinging throat after he consumed some poison.Hence, the place is considered sacred and hundreds of people come to worship as a pilgrimage site. Whereas Helambu, it is a region that facilitates buddhist culture and is considered as buddhist pilgrimage site, inhabited by Sherpas called Hyolmo.
